Chopped Top Iron Chef Oakridge - Season 1, Episode 3 - White Night: Ron vs. Richard

Tonight's battle was Ron vs. Richard, with James as the "shopper".  James brought all white ingredients to the competition:

canned potatoes
chicken
white brats
flour tortillas
scallops
cauliflower
white kidney beans
perogies
sour cream
cream cheese
rice vermicelli
cream of potato soup
milk
white cake mix
Dream Whip
instant hot white chocolate
almonds
coconuts

Prep time brought much deliberation and menu planning on both sides.  Ron and Richard, although competing against each other, worked very well in the kitchen, prepping some items together, such as toasting almonds and cooking the vermicelli.

Richard chose to do a home style curry with a jalapeno Havarti quesadilla.

Ron went with a trio of beef carpaccio, butter-braised potatoes, and a pan fried chicken and cheese wrap.

Both dishes were delicious and unique.   The best dish of the night was Ron's wraps, they had great flavor (and they were topped with sour cream).  The judges scored the dishes and here are the results:

Taste:  Ron
Creativity:  Richard
Presentation:  Ron

So Ron takes this evenings win.  Congratulations Ron!

Special mention must go to James, who after last weeks loss was on Redemption Kitchen Island, so he prepared a cake with some of the unused white ingredients.  YUM-O!

Next weeks Cheftestants will be Ron vs. Eric, with Richard choosing the special ingredients.

Current standings:

                        Wins                  Losses

Ron                     1                        1

Warren                1                        0

James                  1                        1

Richard               0                        1

Eric                     0                        0

As of now James and Warren are prepping between veal scallopini, pork ribs and chicken. Warren is preparing veal scallopini, cucumber red onion with yogurt, roasted potatoes with parsley and an Asparagus salad with his take on a bloody Mary. James is doing a citrus rib with little chicken pot pies. He also plans on using the avocado in some application. Both cheftestants are ferverously prepping away.

The Challenge!

Each week three of us gather for a night of food fun. Based on three shows, we have come up with a friendly albeit tense competition combining elements from "Chopped", "Top Chef", and "Iron Chef". Watch and follow the three of us as we challenge each other to different themes and ingredients each week.
